Ohio Tax Overview

For tax year 2026, Ohio completes its transition to a flat income tax under HB 96 (2025): 0% on income up to $26,050 and a single flat 2.75% rate on nonbusiness income above $26,050. This replaces the prior 2025 structure (0% / 2.75% / 3.125% top bracket over $100,000) and gives Ohio one of the lowest flat income tax rates in the nation.

Ohio has approximately 600 municipalities with local income taxes. These are administered through agencies like RITA (Regional Income Tax Agency) and CCA (Central Collection Agency).

The personal exemption is $2,400 for AGI of $40,000 or less, $2,150 for AGI up to $80,000, and $1,900 for AGI over $80,000. Beginning in 2025, exemptions phase out at MAGI of $750,000.

Ohio does not have standard deductions. Instead, Ohio uses personal and dependent exemptions to reduce taxable income.
