Florida Tax Overview
A Florida paycheck skips one line that workers in most states never escape: state income tax withholding. There isn't any. What leaves your gross pay is federal income tax, withheld according to the W-4 you filed with your employer and the IRS tables, plus the two FICA payroll taxes. Social Security takes 6.2% of wages up to the $184,500 base for 2026, and Medicare takes 1.45% with no cap at all.
Because no Tallahassee agency claims a cut, the gap between gross and net on a Florida stub is usually smaller than for someone earning the same salary in a state with an income tax. Pre-tax items still shrink the taxable figure first: a 401(k) deferral (up to $24,500 in 2026), health premiums, and HSA contributions all come out before federal tax is calculated. Florida also has no state disability or paid-leave deduction, so those rows are blank too.
