New Mexico Tax Overview
Under HB 252 (2024), effective January 1, 2025 and continuing for 2026, New Mexico uses six graduated brackets: 1.5%, 3.2%, 4.3%, 4.7%, 4.9% and a top rate of 5.9% on income over $210,000 (single) or $315,000 (married). The state conforms to the federal standard deduction.
New Mexico uses a Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) instead of a traditional sales tax. The state base rate is 4.875%, but local additions can bring the combined rate above 9% in some areas. GRT applies to services as well as goods.

New Mexico has relatively low property taxes averaging 0.67%. The state has no estate tax, inheritance tax, disability insurance, or paid family leave programs.
