Nevada Income Tax Overview
Nevada is one of a handful of states with no personal income tax at all, and the bar is unusually high to change that: the state constitution prohibits a tax on personal income, so introducing one would take a constitutional amendment, not just a legislative vote. Wages, salaries, self-employment earnings, capital gains, retirement withdrawals, Social Security, and pension income are all free of any state-level income tax for Nevada residents.
That does not erase your federal obligation. You still file a federal return with the IRS and pay federal income tax on the same income a resident of any other state would. What disappears is the second return -- there is no Nevada equivalent of a state 1040, no state withholding form, and no separate state filing deadline. Nevada funds itself instead through sales tax, gaming and casino taxes, and business levies like the Commerce Tax and Modified Business Tax, shifting the revenue load off individual earners and onto consumption and business activity.
